In late 2004, Gord was appointed by Minister of Education Gerard Kennedy to the Parent Voice in Education Project as one of 20 from across the province. This group led a provincial consultation leading to a report to the Minister and the creation of Ontario's first policy to direct system resources to further engage parents and the community in strengthening public education. The link to the latest policy update, issued in September 2010 is provided here.
Early in 2006, Gord was appointed by the former Minister of Education to the Interim Ontario Parent Involvement Advisory Board to provide further advice on implementation of the new policy. An early outcome was improvements to the Ministry of Education website to provide educators and school councils with a range of ideas for using the new funding effectively to engage parents and the community.
In 2000, Gord founded a support centre for school councils across Ontario, reaching over 30,000 people to date.
In 2005, Gord founded a centre to stimulate the development of resources and continued research to advance helpful parent involvement in education. Click here to return to the home page of The Parent Involvement Centre.
Gord is featured in an online education resource available to educational leaders across Ontario. Click here to visit the Leadership Development Centre where you can view a presentation on stimulating parent and community involvement in education.
